You must decide on a name for this new bundle of joy coming into your life.

The following are a few tips that will help to get you started to find that perfect baby name.

• Your child will live with the name for the rest of their life, so while unique names and spellings are very favourable, consider that the child could always have their name mispronounced or misspelt. This kind of experience can be very frustrating for a child.

• Consider names that are of ethnic origin. They don’t even have to be your ethnic origin. Ethnic names are beautiful and unique.

• In my ethnic origin we have names like Ikechukwu,”: The power of God, Akudo: Wealth of Peace, Chima: My God Knows, Ugonna: My Fathers Glory,
Chika: God is Great. My name is Akubia: which means, My wealth has
come. Such names bring good fortune into the life of such persons.

• Choose a name based upon its meaning. Sometimes the definition of a name can steer you away from it, or draw you closer to it. Definite and positive names are important and will surely make a difference in the life of your new bundle of JOY!

Even if it’s not a Biblical name, you should choose a name that has a proper meaning. You know what I discovered about names? Your name determines your destiny, Many people may think it doesn’t matter, but I want you to know that there is power in a name. The Bible says that whatever two shall agree as touching upon anything it shall be for them. There is the power of agreement in a name.

Imagine if your name is Blessing, you know when I call you blessing and you answer there is an agreement between the two of us, you agree that your name is blessings. And each time anybody calls you blessing they are releasing blessings into your life. So, imagine somebody whose name is Pain or has some awful meaning, each time they are called that name they are releasing the meaning of that name into their lives,

Names are so-so essential people don’t know how important a name is, your name can rewrite your destiny. There was a case in the Bible of Jabez – Jabez had to change his name because of the pain it caused him. The Bible says, In 1 Chronicles 4:9-10, “Jabez was more honourable than his brothers. His mother named him ‘Jabez’ saying, ‘Because I bore him with pain.’ Now, Jabez called on the God of Israel saying, ‘Oh, Lord, bless me indeed and expand my territory. ‘Jabez cried out to the Lord saying ‘Lord, please help me, God; this name that my mother gave me ‘Jabez’ is destroying my life. And God answered him. I know you will not deliberately cause pain for your child. So take time to choose a good name for your child. Amen.

In the Bible, they were certain children God did not even allow their parents to choose their name because of the destiny those children carried. Someone like Jesus, John the Baptist and a few other ones like them.

The Angel did not allow Mary to choose the name of Jesus. God chose the name Jesus and sent His Angel to inform her. So choosing your baby’s name is a book that will teach you how to select the name of your child. Knowing that there is the power of agreement in a name you don’t just choose any name, but you will want a name that will be a blessing to your child and will also match the destiny that God has for he/her.
