For women who have already gone through menopause but were still hoping of having another baby, there may be some excellent news.

A group of specialists discovered how to restore women’s eggs after menopause, and enable them to get pregnant. The fantastic breakthrough has had several good results. Enough to be confident that the procedure can work for several more.

A gynaecologist by the name of Konstantinos Sfakianoudis stated that this new information “offers a window of hope that menopausal women will be able to get pregnant using their genetic material.”

The discovery is a big breakthrough for many obvious reasons. For one, it enables women, who have already gone through menopause, to have periods again by restoring their ovaries so they can once again discharge fertile eggs. Another reason is the one percent who go through menopause before the age of 50 because of either, cancer treatments or certain medical conditions.

Those who go through menopause, before turning fifty, often face several emotions and start to lose hope of starting or completing their family. This breakthrough will help and offer a solution.

Some might think of this as risky because the average age of menopause is around fifty years old, but it isn’t as dangerous as one would think. There have been many who have had a baby after the age of fifty with little to no complications.

The group has used the technique on several women so far with a 66% success rate. In one case, they used their procedure on a woman who has not had a menstrual cycle in about five years. Using sperm from her husband, they were able to fertilize two eggs successfully and will be implanting the embryos in her uterus. In the meantime, the embryos will be stored on ice, and once they are implanted, she will be able to give birth to a beautiful baby. Who says wishes and dreams don’t come true?

Besides the above case, the group has also used their new procedure on thirty other females with an impressive 66% success rate.

So how does the procedure work? A blood treatment titled Platelet-rich-plasma or PRP is the basis for the procedure. PRP aids in boosting tissue growth and blood vessel growth so when it is used, or injected into aged ovaries, it restarts the process of menstrual cycles. With the menstrual cycle restarted, the group can gather the released eggs and fertilize them.

Although the study is showing very positive results thus far, there are still more studies that need to be done. The effectiveness isn’t fully known yet, and there is still some more studies to take place to make sure of any side effects or potential problems that can happen. So far though, it is looking very promising.

With this new information, I think this is a positive step for those of us who haven’t been able to give birth despite various other attempts. Who knows what other windows these results can open for other treatments as well. The possibilities are there.

What do you think of this awesome discovery?
